Abamectin controls all internal parasites with the exception of Tapeworms, including migrating larval stages.
Composition
Contains: Abamectin 4 mg/g (120 mg /30 g)
Features and Benefits
Abamectin acts by binding selectively and with high affinity to glutamate-gated
chloride channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This leads to hyperpolarisation
of these cells, resulting in flaccid paralysis and death of the parasite.
Indications
Treatment and control of:
Large Strongyles: adult & larval stages of Strongylus vulgaris
adult & tissue stages of S. edentatus
Small Strongyles: including benzimidazole resistant strains of adult and immature Cyathostomum spp,
Cycliocyclus spp
Cylicostephanus spp
Cylicodontophorus spp
Gyalocephalus spp
Triodontophorus spp: adults
Pin Worm: adult & immature Oxyuris equi
Roundworm: adult & immature Parascaris equorum
Hairworm: adult Trichostrongylus axei
Threadworm: microfilariae of Onchocerca spp
Bots: oral & gastric stages of Gasterophilus spp
Lungworm: adult & immature Dictyocaulus arnfeldi
Intestinal Threadworm: adult Strongyloides westeri
Skin lesions caused by: Habronema spp, Draschia spp, cutaneous larvae (Summer Sores) and Onchocerca spp microfilariae (Cutaneous Onchocerciasis).
Abamectin is highly effective against migrating S.vulgaris in the arterial wall supplying the intestine. Signs of colic associated with migrating larvae are often dramatically reduced within 2 days of treatment.
Dosage and Administration
The contents of one 30 g syringe are sufficient to treat one horse of 600 kg bodyweight.
Foals and Ponies: administer 5 g of paste per 100 kg bodyweight.
AMECTIN is safe for use in pregnant mares, in foals over one week of age, and in debilitated & convalescent animals.
Presentation
30 g adjustable dose paste syringe
Storage
Store below 30o C (air conditioning).
General Notes
A year round worming prevention and treatment program varies with climatic and stocking conditions but, in general terms, all horses should
be wormed every 6 - 8 weeks, commencing at approximately 6 - 8 weeks of age. All horses newly introduced to a property should be wormed immediately on arrival, and kept away from regularly used paddocks or yards for several
days in order to minimise environmental recontamination.
Abamectin controls all internal parasites with the exception of Tapeworms, including migrating larval stages.
If Tapeworms are present, consider changing 1 - 2 treatments per year to MORAMECTIN.
